A warm welcome from all of us at the Boulder Outlook Hotel & Suites! Meet our management team first through bios and photos, then we'll welcome you in person when you arrive!

Dan King, CHA Owner, The Boulder Outlook Hotel & Suites

Dan King is the Ambassador of Cool. King's responsibilities include spiritually and emotionally coaching the staff at The Outlook, ensuring the hotel remains unique as it continues to provide its guests with an unexpected level of service. He is an expert in many aspects of hotel management including financials, food and beverage and general hotel operations. King has more than two decades of experience in the hospitality industry.

King joined the New York offices of HVS International in 1985 and during his initial six-year tenure with HVS and was promoted to senior vice president. At HVS International, he was involved in more than 250 consulting and valuation assignments including hotel valuations, operational reviews, expert court testimony and other consulting assignments for properties ranging from roadside motels to five-star resorts.

After leaving HVS International, King worked in New York for a wholly owned affiliate of Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) from 1992 to 1997. As vice president, senior asset manager, King oversaw the takeover, operation, renovation and disposition of a diverse portfolio of commercial real estate including 15 hotels and two golf courses, as well as condominium projects and retail shopping centers. King's hotel portfolio ranged from roadside motels in Florida to an upscale center city hotel in Manhattan. In a series of individual transactions, King was able to sell the portfolio, roughly valued at $65 million, for more than $90 million. He budgeted and oversaw numerous renovation projects ranging in total cost from $2,000 to $12,000,000.

King holds a Bachelor's of Science degree from The Hotel School at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY and is accredited as a certified hotel administrator (CHA) from the American Hotel & Lodging Association. He has completed all course work for the Appraisal Institute's MAI designation and has been licensed as a real estate salesperson in New York and as a general certified appraiser in Connecticut. King has been a frequent lecturer at hospitality conferences and has authored articles published in the HVS Journal, as well as Real Estate Forum magazine. Most recently, he was a semi-finalist for the 2003 Rocky Mountain Region Entrepreneur of the Year award, as selected by Ernst & Young. King currently serves on the Boulder Chamber of Commerce's Community Affairs Council and on the Hospitality, Safety & Development Communication Committee. He is also a Vice President of the Boulder Hotel & Motel Association and is a Board Member for the Boulder Convention & Visitors Bureau.

King is married with two sons, Joe and Nick. His community involvement includes The Community Foundation, which encourages philanthropy and improving the quality of life in Boulder County, and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. His favorite thing about being a "Boulderite' is enjoying the great outdoors and the unique Boulder attitude. When Dan's away from The Outlook, he can be found riding his six-cylinder Valkyrie motorcycle or tubing down Boulder Creek with his family in tow.
